Crossroads

I really liked this piece written by a friend, Jester Jesalva so i thought I'd share it here. To whoever can relate... 

It seems like  any other time, the feeling is so strong that no one can ever resist. I remember the days that this feeling led me to nothing, it seems like you’re walking in the distant land and don’t know what will happen. A feeling that’s so intimidating to pursue. Is it the one who i was waiting for or is it just another person who will leave me behind?

A stupidity that leads to nothing but instill a lesson to this weak heart of mine. But anything can happen in this world because stupidity is part of human nature.

Something or someone just reminds me that this will be a cloud nine, a happiness that will satisfy that yearning for someone you have long missed.

Then all you can think is me in your arms, a forbidden love waiting to happen. You have your own life to make and i have mine, but still we met on the same crossroad. Faith must be playing with us. 

Is it a question to be answered or a mistake to be corrected? We met in this road of life for reasons unknown. But now it’s time to go, and maybe it’s also time to ponder on what we’ve been through and what we have done. Just keep this in mind, you’ll always be remembered but someday you’ll realize that i just passed through your way to say hello and goodbye. Our book has come to an end, it’s a bittersweet ending but it’ll free us from this bond that corrupted us.

Let the time decides as to what will happen to us, maybe we’ll be in the same crossroad again but in a different situation.

80-20 RULE

I learned about this rule just last week from my boss during sales presentation and i thought it was pretty good.

"Only 20% of your customers will give you 80% of your sales." OR as our Business Unit Manager put it, and this i really like, "With 20% effort, you get 80% results." :)

The Olympian's Harry Potter: Percy Jackson

When I read one review that described it to be Harry Potter with Greek Mythology instead of wizard magic, I was sold. I thought I like Harry Potter and i like Greek mythology, why not? And I wasn't disappointed, all the while I kept thinking this is so Harry Potter with Greek mythology! :)

Percy Jackson (son of Poseidon), Grover (bestfriend/ protector) and Annabeth (daughter of Athena) are the three main kids who took on the adventure. Awkward hero who just learned of his great powers. Wise-cracking sidekick. Pretty know-it-all girl whose skills outshines the boys. Reminds you of another trio? Yup, it's the new Harry-Ron-Hermione (considering HP is on the 7th book adaptation and it's bye-bye fave trio).  What's with the 2 guys + 1 girl team anyways? This (new) trio though didn't have that bonding effect the other trio had with the audience.

And then where Harry Potter has Hogwarts, Percy Jackson has Camp Half-Blood. But while half-bloods are only part of Hogwarts which is mostly composed of pure-blood wizards, the Camp Half-Blood is simply for just that, the haf-bloods. In this movie, half-bloods are half-God half-human aka Demigods. And where Hogwarts has Dumbledor, Camp Half-Blood has Chiron. And may I say that Pierce Brosnan as Chiron is one hot centaur. And the movie did have a really good Centaur effect. It  didn't feel as magical as Hogwarts thought and lacked that awe effect the had during Harry Potter's first installment.

Other notable performances are Uma Thurman as Medusa, Rosario Dawson as Persephone, and Kevin McKidd i think was effective as Poseidon (although I probably would have preferred Brosnan to play that role). Sean Bean is perfect as Zeus. He has that body and physique that just suit the ancient Greek world. I still remember him as Odysseus in Troy.

Overall i think the movie has its merits. Unless you're very defensive and fanatical about Harry Potter (hence you cringe at all the similarities) it's a fun and entertaining watch. While this new trio will not be the same as the other one, I think they can hold their own if given the chance. I really hope there will be adaptations of the other adventures of Percy Jackson (there are currently five books yeyy!!) and hopefully this franchise will get to establish itself  NOT (just) as the next Harry Potter because really the concept of Demigods is pretty cool. Like the Gods got bored in Olympus and decided to hook up with mortals? Lol. 

After 25

Sure you're still in your 20's but when you pass that quarter of a century mark, somehow you start to fell NOT-young anymore. At least I do, haha! And then there are some things that just shout, "you're old". :P

NOW: Sure you can still party 'till dawn but not without feeling really exhausted (you end up sleeping for 10 hours straight lol). Plus this is like a once in a blue moon event, you're more into dining out and movies and coffee nowadays.
BEFORE: You party until closing time, yep that's almost if not sunrise already. Oh and getting breakfast after, before heading home, is not unusual.

NOW: You have a glass or two out, maybe 3 on special occassions but most of the time you'd rather drink in-house.
BEFORE: You can drink all kinds of alcohol (of course this is case-to-case basis) and drink a bucket of beer and still get home safe and sound.

NOW: From margarita to wine, now mostly WINE. Yeah, WINE!!!
BEFORE: 1st choice of drink - TEQUIla or maybe a cosmo if feeling SATC-ish :)

NOW: You actually love spending time at home, watching NCIS in your room or simply feeling domestic.
BEFORE: You're only a text away from going out. You are a social butterfly.

NOW: Your parents have to beg you to get out of their house.
BEFORE: When you go home (province) during holidays, you can't get out of the house fast enough.

NOW: When you binge it shows! I guess metabolism isn't as effective as it used to be.
BEFORE: You eat whatever you want without (significantly) gaining weight.

Ohh how I miss being young and carefree, hehehe! Of course there are a lot of great things that come with growing up as well, but that's an entirely different conversation. Maybe next time.. :)

Bittersweet

Friends. There are a lot of types of those - you have the BFFs, the sister-kind, special friends (whatever special's definition is), etc. But there is one kind of friend I think everybody should have. They're not necessarily your best buddies or the friends you go out with regularly, and they can even be annoying! But the good thing about them is that you can be mean to them and you're still sure you're friends. Not a single moment do you fear that you'll lose that friendship. Of course you don't release all your wrath just for kicks but you know that you don't have to filter your words or emotions towards them. No sugar-coating whatsoever.You can be blunt and it's okay. You get away at being a bicth or jerk to each other because after all has been said and done, at the end of the day you care about each other. And that supercedes everything! :)
